SECURITY DOOR QUESTIONS

Q. How soon can you come and quote for a security door?
A. Bonds Security Products can arrange for one of our licensed security consultants to contact you within 1 to 3 days after your initial contact.

Q. How long do I wait for the installation of my security door?
A. Demand for security doors is seasonal, but you can typically expect your order to be installed within 1 to 3 weeks after you accept our quote.

Q. What payment methods do you accept?
A. We accept Visa, MasterCard, cash, cheque or direct deposit. Payment is due upon installation. 1/3 deposit is required.

Q. What colours are available for a security door?
A. We have eight Standard Powder Coated Colours and two Standard Anodised Colours in our Standard range. We can also manufacture in any other Special Powder Coated colour at an additional cost. The most common colours are listed here, however, different colours are available. We also have Wood Look security doors and window screens. Please call to confirm we have your required colour.

Q. Can a pet door be added to a security door?
A. Yes, we have three sizes available, however, please note that adding a pet door to your security door will reduce its security and will no longer be classified as a security door. Please discuss your requirements with our sales consultant.
  • Small (190mm wide x 240mm high)
  • Medium (225mm wide x 305mm high)
  • Large (260mm wide x 400mm high)
Q. When ordering multiple security doors, can they be keyed the same?
A. Yes. Multiple security doors ordered at the same time get keyed the same.

Q. Can security doors be keyed alike to a key that I provide?
A. Yes. Provide the key when ordering. It will get returned to you upon installation.

Q. Do you have a Caretaker locking option on your security doors?
A. Yes, the optional Caretaker feature allows you to snib-lock a hinged security door from the outside without needing to use the key. The Caretaker option is a good idea if there are family members still inside the house when you leave. In an emergency, they will not need to look for a key to open the security door from the inside. The Caretaker key can only lock the security door; it cannot unlock the door.

Q. Is there anything I need to do to keep my security door working at its optimum best?
A. Yes. For Bonds Security Products to provide you with a long-lasting locking system to your doors and windows, we recommend that locks should be lubricated as often as suggested in the Product Maintenance Guide supplied with your order. Locksmiths recommend using a product called INOX, which can get purchased from Bonds Security Products or any good hardware store. In areas where pollutants are more prevalent, such as areas close to the beach or industrial regions, lubrication should get carried out more frequently.

SECURITY DOOR STANDARDS

Australian Standards are published documents setting out specifications and procedures designed to ensure products, services and systems are safe, reliable, and consistently perform the way they are intended. They establish a minimum set of requirements which define quality and safety criteria.

When it comes to the design and testing of our security products, we have taken every step to ensure that our doors, window screens, and other security products exceed all the recommended Australian Standards.

PROMESH316 and SecureGrille products have been independently tested by Azuma Design which is one of Australia's largest privately-owned compliance testing and engineering companies.

Australian Standard AS5039 Security Screen Door and Security Window Grilles is the main product standard relating to Security Screens. This standard calls up AS5041 Methods of Test - Security Screen Doors and Window Grilles.

Further information about the Australian Standards for security doors is available from Standards Australia Limited and SAI Global.

What Is Australian Standards AS5039?

Australian Standards AS5039 is made up of the following six tests to assess the strength and structural integrity of security screen doors and security window screens.
  1. Knife Shear Test
  2. Impact Test
  3. Jemmy Test
  4. Pull Test
  5. Probe Test
  6. Sheer Test

Knife Shear Test

The Knife Shear Test simulates an intruder using a knife or sharp object. This test involves applying mechanical force with a heavy-duty knife to the security mesh. It is carried out three times with a new blade for each strike. The mesh must not allow the knife blade to make an incision longer than 150mm.

Impact Test

The Impact Test simulates a physical attack on a screen; kicking, pushing or using a heavy object. A considerable pendulum weight gets used to generate 100j of impact energy at a specified point. The door or window screen must withstand a series of five impacts.

Jemmy Test

The Jemmy Test simulates an intruder attempting to lever the screen open with a screwdriver. During this test, a screwdriver gets wedged between the security door lock and the door frame. A mechanical winch attempts to pry the door open. The security door must remain securely closed to pass the Jemmy Test.

Pull Test

The Pull Test simulates an intruder attempting to pull the screen out. A Pull Test can only get carried out if a sufficient gap is available following the Jemmy Test. If no difference is possible, there is nowhere to mount the Pull Test bracket or hold onto the screen in a real scenario.

Probe Test 🕶

The Probe Test simulates an intruder creating a gap in the security screen so they can get their hand in to unlock the door or window. This test involves applying a deflecting force of 1.5 kN (150 kg) to each side of the opening, attempting to increase the space enough to get a hand through.

Shear Test 🕶

The Shear Test simulates an intruder attempting a cutting plier attack on a security screen. The tool applies increasing pressure until the sample strand breaks.

🕶 It is important to note that the Probe and Shear Test is not required if the aperture size of the mesh hole is less than the test requirement - PROMESH316 has a hole aperture of 1.64mm which is smaller than the testing requirements.

BARRIERS FOR POOLS - PASSED
The Building Regulations 2012 (the Regulations) requires all private swimming and spa pools that contain water that is more than 300mm deep to have a compliant safety barrier installed that restricts access by young children to the pool and its immediate surrounds. PROMESH316 and SecureGrille screens can be manufactured to comply with pool regulations in Perth.
WINDOW PROTECTION
FALL PREVENTION - PASSED

BUSHFIRE PRONE AREAS
BUSHFIRE PRONE AREAS - PASSED

PROMESH316 security screens may be used in bushfire prone areas. The Australian Standard Bushfire Prone Areas Test prescribes the suitability of mesh used for screening of doors or windows to prevent an ember attack. The mesh must have an aperture size less than 2mm. PROMESH316 0.9mm marine grade 316 stainless steel mesh has an aperture of 1.64mm.
