SECURITY DOOR QUESTIONS
Q. How soon can you come and quote for a security door?
A. Bonds Security Products can arrange for one of our licensed security consultants to contact you within 1 to 3 days of your initial inquiry.
Q. How long will I wait for the installation of my security door?
A. While demand for security doors can vary seasonally, you can typically expect your installation to be completed within 4 to 6 weeks after accepting our quote.
Q. What payment methods do you accept?
A. We accept Visa, MasterCard, cash, cheque, or direct deposit. Payment is due upon installation, with a 1/3 deposit required.
Q. What colours are available for a security door?
A. We offer eight Standard Powder Coated Colours and two Standard Anodised Colours. We can also manufacture doors in any Special Powder Coated colour at an additional cost. Common colours are listed here, but other options are available. We also provide Wood Look security doors and window screens. Please contact us to confirm the availability of your preferred colour.
Q. Can a pet door be added to a security door?
A. Yes, we offer three sizes for pet doors. However, adding a pet door will compromise the security of the door, and it will no longer be classified as a security door. Please discuss your needs with our sales consultant.
- Small (190mm wide x 240mm high)
- Medium (225mm wide x 305mm high)
- Large (260mm wide x 400mm high)
Q. When ordering multiple security doors, can they be keyed the same?
A. Yes, multiple security doors ordered at the same time are keyed alike.
Q. Can security doors be keyed alike to a key that I provide?
A. Yes, you can provide a key when ordering, and it will be returned to you upon installation.
Q. Is there anything I need to do to keep my security door in optimal condition?
A. To ensure long-lasting performance, we recommend lubricating the locks as suggested in the Product Maintenance Guide provided with your order. Locksmiths recommend using a product like INOX, available from Bonds Security Products or any well-stocked hardware store. In areas with high pollutant levels, such as near the beach or industrial regions, more frequent lubrication may be necessary.
Australian Standards & Our Commitment to Quality
Australian Standards are published documents that set out specifications and procedures to ensure products, services, and systems are safe, reliable, and perform as intended. These standards establish minimum requirements for quality and safety.
At Bonds Security Products, we go beyond the recommended Australian Standards in the design and testing of our security products. We ensure that our doors, window screens, and other security solutions exceed all required specifications.
Our PROMESH316, SecureShield, SecureVision and SecureGrille products have undergone independent testing by Azuma Design, one of Australia's leading privately-owned compliance testing and engineering firms.
The Australian Standard AS5039 is the key standard for Security Screen Doors and Window Grilles. This standard references AS5041, which outlines the methods of testing for security screen doors and window grilles.
For further details about Australian Standards for security doors, please refer to Standards Australia Limited and SAI Global.
What Is Australian Standard AS5039?
Australian Standard AS5039 outlines six tests designed to assess the strength and structural integrity of security screen doors and window screens:
- Knife Shear Test
This test simulates an intruder using a knife or sharp object. A heavy-duty knife is applied to the security mesh, with three strikes using a new blade each time. The mesh must prevent the blade from making an incision longer than 150mm. - Impact Test
This test simulates a physical attack on the screen, such as kicking or hitting with a heavy object. A pendulum weight generates 100J of impact energy at a specified point. The screen must withstand a series of five impacts without failing. - Jemmy Test
This test mimics an attempt to pry open the screen with a screwdriver. A screwdriver is wedged between the security door lock and the door frame, and a mechanical winch tries to pry the door open. To pass this test, the door must remain securely closed. - Pull Test
This test simulates an intruder trying to pull the screen out. It can only be performed if there is sufficient space after the Jemmy Test. If the gap is inadequate, the Pull Test cannot be conducted as there is no proper mounting or holding point. - Probe Test
This test simulates an intruder attempting to create a gap in the security screen to reach through and unlock the door or window. A deflecting force of 1.5 kN (150 kg) is applied to each side of the opening to attempt to increase the space enough for a hand to pass through. - Shear Test
This test simulates an intruder using cutting pliers to attack the security screen. The tool applies increasing pressure until the sample strand breaks.
Note: The Probe and Shear Tests are not required if the aperture size of the mesh hole is smaller than the test requirements. For example, PROMESH316 has a hole aperture of 1.64mm, which is smaller than the testing requirements.
PROMESH316 security screens may be used in bushfire prone areas. The Australian Standard Bushfire Prone Areas Test prescribes the suitability of mesh used for screening of doors or windows to prevent an ember attack. The mesh must have an aperture size less than 2mm. PROMESH316 0.9mm marine grade 316 stainless steel mesh has an aperture of 1.64mm.
