4 Reasons You Need a Police-Licensed Installer For Your Security Door Installation
Here are four reasons this is important:
Reason 1: It’s The Law
Anyone who is paid for the installation, maintenance, or repair of security equipment – including safes, CCTV, security doors , and locks – is required to have a license. There are four classes of license:
-
Class 1 Security Installer: Safes, vaults, locks.
-
Class 2 Security Installer: CCTV, security alarms, electric fences.
-
Class 3 Security Installer: Security doors.
-
Class 4 Security Installer: Locks
To use this license legally, this installer must then either work for a licensed security agent or hold the additional Security Agent Licence themselves (if self-employed).
Reason 2: A License Guarantees Effective Training
To receive their license, the installer needs to complete the required Technical Security training course for their license. This ensures they have the technical knowledge to fit your security door effectively.
An installer without a license may not have the knowledge or experience necessary to achieve the correct fitting, leaving your home vulnerable to attack; it doesn’t matter how strong the door itself is if it is incorrectly installed.
Reason 3: A License Ensures They Are a Fit and Proper Person
Police-licensed installers are only eligible if they are assessed to be a “fit and proper person”. They are required to provide details of historic convictions and penalties when applying; those who are unsuitable are rejected. A history of theft, for example, would rule someone out. Applying for the license also ensures they are who they say they are – they must prove their identity.
If an installer doesn’t have a license, you have no proof that they are who they say they are. They could have a conviction for theft, and you would not know it.
Reason 4: No License? What Other Corners Have They Cut?
Assuming the installer is a suitable candidate and willing to work to achieve their license, it isn’t too hard to get. Anyone who fails to get a license is either unsuitable or is cutting corners – what else are they doing the quick and cheap way?
Will they install your security door properly or will they cut corners? Is it even a true security door according to Australian Standards? It’s hard to tell; when you accept installation from a non-licensed installer, you are gambling.
